What's all this about?
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, with permission from their bosses at Mercedes-Benz, have created two very special limited edition SL 63 AMGs to celebrate the company's utterly dominant performance in the 2014 Formula One season.
Why are they different colours?
The black car, which has gold detailing inside and out, is Lewis' idea of what should make an SL special. The white car is Nico's take on the formula. They are called World Championship 2014 Collector's Editions.
Do they have even more power than the standard SL 63 AMG?
No, they have the same 5.5-litre biturbo V8 engine as the production version, although the speed limiter is raised to 186mph - from 155mph normally.
What else can you tell me about them?
There will be just 19 of each colour, but the cars are all personalised - via a piece of embroidery on the floor mat, an engraving on the centre console and a graphic on the key fob - to each of the circuits used in the 2014 seasons. So each of the 38 SLs is truly unique. They're extremely well-specified and the lucky buyers not only get the cars, but also some special extras like one of the driver's racing helmets, a bespoke watch and tickets to the Melbourne GP in 2015.
Go on, then - how much are they?
Don't get your hopes up. Unless you're in the Mercedes-Benz Circle of Excellence (wasn't that what Robert de Niro kept threatening to expel Ben Stiller from in Meet The Parents?), you won't be able to buy them no matter how much cash you have. And these people in the circle of trust will be offered the cars as matching pairs first and foremost; if they don't sell as pairs, they'll go individually, with the cars handed over at the 2015 German GP. The cost of exclusivity in Germany is €629,510 for both or €320,110 for one, which is about £499,365 or £253,930 respectively. A standard SL 63 AMG will cost you £112,510...
