Back in the spring we managed to secure a BMW M5 for a cross Europe blast that culminated in a few laps of the Nurburgring. At the time we felt truly lucky to have experienced such a thing, perhaps a once in a lifetime chance to properly drive such a car. But then one quiet afternoon the phone rang and our friends at BMW offered up the car you see here, the new M6.

Back in his days as BMW-Williams employee, Jenson Button drove a BMW 330d as his company car, and was once famously caught speeding excessively in Europe. The 3-series BMW has moved on since those days, as has Jenson.

More interestingly for the enthusiast are two new higher-powered BMW 5-series cars, the 4-litre V8 powered 540i and the 4,799cc V8 550i, available in both saloon and Touring body styles.

This is very much a chip off the old block; indeed it looks very much like the X5 in many ways with only the view of the rear being significantly different. On the move you need a sharp eye to differentiate between the two.
