Mazda launched its foray into the uber-hot hatch market in Munich. We went along to see if the MPS version of the Mazda3 stands up to the competition.

Front: Independent strut. Compared with the Mazda3, the Mazda3 MPS has higher rate coil springs and damping force, larger diameter stabiliser bars and 60% more roll stiffness.

Rear: Independent multi-link.

Steering: Power assisted rack and pinion.

Brakes: Ventilated discs, front (320mm) and rear (280mm), with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).

Wheels: 7JJ x 18-inch alloys.

Tyres: 215/45 R18.
