Dale Jarrett extended his lead in the Winston Cup Series at the Michigan Speedway
last Sunday. The rains held off in what was an uneventful race. The race ran
caution free, the first time this happened since Talladega 1997. Lap 53 saw Jarrett
take the lead after his pitstop, where he remained until the end of the 200 lap race.
He took his No. 88 Quality Care/Ford Care Ford over the finishing line half a second
ahead of Jeff Gordon.
This was Jarrett's second win of the season and his 20th career win in the Winston
Cup Series. He also managed to post a new lap record speed of 173.99mph. Only
five cars out of the forty-three car field finished on the lead lap. Jeff Burton
finished in third with his brother Ward in fourth with Bobby Labonte in fifth.
Round 15 takes place at the Pocono Raceway on June 20th.
