Round 14 NASCAR 1999 - Round 14
06 June 1999
In last week's preview of race 13 in the 1999 NASCAR series, I mentioned how Bobby Labonte and Jeff Gordon finished in the top five at the same race at Dover Downs in 1998. Both men featured strongly again in this years race. Labonte pulled into his pit on lap 294 to take on some extra fuel. This was a move he made under a race caution and one that paid him big dividends at the end of the race. Joining the fray back on track, Labonte soon found himself in second place trying to unsettle the lead from Jeff Gordon. He didn't have to wait for long. Gordon turned into pit lane six laps from the end of the 400 lap race. Labonte took the lead finishing victorious and taking his first win of the 1999 series.

Bobby Labonte in his No.1 Interstate Batteries Pontiac has finished fourth in the last three races at this particular Speedway. The win makes it Labonte's eight Winston Cup career win. Dale Jarrett leads the series by 51 points from Jeff Burton with Bobby Labonte in third place only 18 points behind Burton.
