NASCAR Winston Cup Races have been run at the Richmond International Raceway since 1953. The 0.750 mile oval is one of the most modern speedways used by the Winston Cup Series. On May 15th Jeff Burton went into the first night race of the season with a healthy lead. His Exide Batteries No.99 Ford suffered mechanical problems and he finished up a lowly 37th. It was Dale Jarrett who made the most of this event as he took the lead on lap 368 in his No.88 Quality Care Ford. Jarrett pulled out a lead over second placed Mark Martin and crossed the finishing line victorious on lap 400. This was his first win of this series giving him a lead of 63 points over Jeff Burton.
