0.137 seconds separated Dale Earnhardt in the No.3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet from second placed Dale Jarrett in car No.88, the Quality Care/Ford Credit Ford in race 9 of the series at the Talladega Superspeedway last Sunday. Making his move on lap 174 of the 188-lap race, Earnhardt took the lead and kept it until the chequered flag. This was the closest ever finish in a Winston Cup Series race. The win earned Earnhardt his 72nd career win. Mark Martin brought home his Valvoline Ford in third place. Jeff Burton, the series leader, only managed to finish in 11th position cutting his points advantage to 40 over Dale Jarrett. Next round is at the California Speedway on May 2nd.
