Round 9 NASCAR 1999 - Round 9
Lady Luck was riding in the No.43 STP Pontiac with John Andretti at the Martinsville Speedway last Sunday. Surviving a spin on lap 49, a determined Andretti went on to take victory. This win gives him his second career win in the Winston Cup Series. Pit stops were critical in helping him carve through the field during the action packed race. It wasn't until 13 laps from the end that he could sense a victory and it showed in his driving. Passing Jeff Gordan in the No.24 Chevrolet and a daring pass on Jeff Burton in the No.99 Exide Batteries Ford, on lap 494 ensured that Andretti took a hard-earned win. Jeff Burton followed home a close second, which keeps him 85 points clear, and still series leader. Next round will be at the Talladega Speedway on April 25th (here on April 30th).
