Round 6 CART 1999 - Round 6

Juan Montoya entered the record books last Saturday with his win in round 5 of the FedEx CART Championship at the Nelson Piquet Raceway in Rio De Janeiro. The Target/Chip Ganassi driver made it his third consecutive win this season, the first rookie to score three back to back wins in a season. The lead changed a few times between Montoya and Christian Fittipaldi, while Dario Franchitti fought hard in third place to keep up with the leaders. His charge was slowed when he brushed the wall in turn one but he recovered well and managed to secure second place from Fittipaldi, who was struggling on fresh tyres after his pitstop in the latter part of the race. It was Montoya's day. The reigning F3000 Champion fought off the closing field as a series of cautions towards the end of the race brought everybody together. Montoya now leads the Championship by 15 points from Dario Franchitti. With only five races completed in this sixteen race series it is already proving to be an exciting season.
