Round 4
![]() |
It was third time lucky for Juan Montoya at Long Beach last Sunday. In only his third race in the CART, Montoya scored a convincing victory over his rivals. In an action packed race the former F3000 Champion held off the challenge of Dario Franchitti who crossed the line in second place 2.805 seconds adrift. The race took a dramatic change on lap 45 when pole position man Tony Kanaan crashed allowing Montoya to take the lead to the chequered flag. Bryan Herta finished in third place while Adrian Fernandez, winner of the last round followed home in fourth helping him to close within 6 points of series leader Greg Moore. The Target/Chip Ganassi team was delighted with Montoya's win as it meant their third consecutive win at Long Beach - Alex Zanardi won in '97 and '98. The next round of the series is at the Nazareth Speedway on May 2nd. Keep in touch with The Car Enthusiast for the preview and results. Murph (Email) |
