Steering Column

by Cian Hanley

Frank Williams is not a happy camper! His team is not where he is used to seeing it - 1st. Williams currently lie 4th in the constructors' championship and have been reduced this season to "also-rans", this is due in part to Jordan's transition into the big three. Indeed this transition to this new position is great for fans; it is due in no small part to an ex-Williams driver, one Heinz-Harald Frentzen to be exact along with the team of course.

At the European GP's rain sodden track, then dry, then wet, then dry Only Mr. Michael Schumacher could have eclipsed Heinz's ability in the wet. But Ralf obviously has some of that "rain-blood". Ralf Schumacher drove an excellent race and could have won once Heinz no longer took part, but then the puncture hindered his progress. He simply drove an excellent race taking into considering that he has limited machinery and an under powered powerplant. When he closed up on David Coulthard on the corner coming out of the straight, we were all on the edge of our seats when he got the inside line but just didn't have the power to slingshot by. When the Mercedes engine hit it's max powerpoint it was bye-bye as far as Coulthard was concerned. However a few laps later he got by taking every inch of tarmac within his disposal- Coulthard was caught napping and paid for it.

Well at least Frank was smiling then, I'm sure he was murmuring to himself "wait 'till I get that BMW engine".
