2000 MODEL YEAR CHEVY MONTE CARLO ANNOUNCED IN USA |
"Classy With a Wild Streak" is how Chevrolet would like us (or at least American consumers) to view the new mid-size sports coupe from General Motor's bargain brand. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of Chevrolet's all-new 2000 model year Monte Carlo will start at $19,850 (including delivery charge) for the LS model and $22,295 for the performance-oriented SS when they begin arriving at dealer showrooms next month.
"Monte Carlo is a very distinctive, personal driving machine that surrounds you with performance in a premium environment, "said Kurt Ritter, Chevrolet's general manager. "Now with these prices you can add the term 'affordable' to the equation, rounding out our value-price story." |
The new Monte Carlo LS comes standard with a 3.4-litre fuel-injected V6 engine and the SS comes standard with an award-winning 3.8-litre V6. Both coupes offer five-passenger seating, a NASCAR-inspired cockpit, 4-wheel independent suspension, and the versatility of a 60/40 split folding rear seat for additional cargo carrying capability. "Coupe buyers want a car that will get them noticed on the road," said Don Parkinson, Monte Carlo brand manager. "That's why the new Monte Carlo is such a great fit for the mid-size coupe market. It's a car that you'll recognize instantly on the street, and our research told us that's what today's customers want."
The new styling retains the long, sloping bonnet (hood if you are American), short rear deck and wide stance that have long been the signature of the Monte Carlo brand for the last 30 years. "Meld the visual appearance with our unparalleled combination of solid structure, excellent engine power and efficiency, and performance suspension components," noted Parkinson, "and you get a vehicle that we call 'classy with a wild streak.' The side you show the world is up to you."
