Mercedes-Benz is about to unveil a sensational two-seater roadster based on the A-class. The Vision SLA concept car, which is just over 12ft long and powered by the 1.9 litre engine from the A190, will be revealed at the 2000 Detroit Auto Show in January. Vision SLA is designed for fun-loving young drivers and draws on the dramatic arrow-shaped bonnet profile of the SLR sportscar, which is due to go into production in a few years. |

Key features of the futuristic Vision SLA roadster are powerfully swept wings, a flat windshield angle, large doors and a gently sloping rear end which reflects the legendary Mercedes Silver Arrows. Vision SLA combines a unique interior with innovative Mercedes technology. The 1.9 litre engine produces 125 hp and the suspension and safety elements also come from the A-class. Innovative light clusters at the front and rear, as well as seat bases made of carbon fibre, are further technical highlights.
