NISSAN TAKE ALL FOUR BTCC CHAMPIONSHIPS!

(Nissan UK press release of 01 September)

Nissan made sure of a clean sweep of all four titles in the 1999 Auto Trader British Touring Car Championship in Rounds 21 & 22 at Brands Hatch. Already winners of the Manufacturers' Championship, the Vodafone Nissan Team recorded an impressive 1-2 in the feature race to land the Teams' Championship and also ensure that only Nissan's Laurent Aiello or David Leslie can win the Drivers' Championship. Matt Neal, in last years works Nissan, has already won the Michelin Cup for Independents.

The team rejoice, with a few races yet to be run

In front of 23,000 spectators at the Kent circuit, Aiello claimed his ninth win of the season in the 50-lap feature race. He now leads the Drivers' Championship on 214 points. Team-mate Leslie on 192 points is in the second place. Now unbeatable in the Teams' Championship, Nissan lead by 63 points, while in the Manufacturers' Championship, their title-winning margin stretches to a massive 164 points. Last season Nissan did the double by taking the Teams' and Manufacturers' titles.

Nissan Motor (GB) Limited Managing Director Brian Carolin said: "This is an excellent achievement for all involved at Vodafone Nissan Racing. On the race circuit, the Primera has consistently proved itself to be the best car in the BTCC series. Nissan has a deserved reputation for building cars with excellent driving dynamics and it is fitting that later this week the new Primera goes on sale."

Our congratulations go to the team behind the team - Advanced Engine Research. They are responsible for the development of the Nissan Primera's racing engine - a major factor in the Primera's success.
