Bobby Labonte pulled off one of the most spectacular passing manoeuvres of the season last Sunday at the Michigan Speedway. Labonte in the No.18 Interstate Batteries Pontiac, took advantage of the wide track to pass Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon in a sensational three-abreast pass. This gave Labonte the lead with 18 laps remaining. He pulled out a significant lead and took victory for the fourth time this season.

Spectators can get a lot closer to the pit-crew than in Formula One!

On lap 178 Labonte closed in on Gordon in second place, who was battling with Earnhardt for the lead. By lap 183 Labonte pulled up beside the side-by-side battle of Gordon and Earnhardt. The three went into turn 1 side-by-side, but Labonte had the speed required to take the lead. Labonte now has a firm grip on third place in the series standings and is only 33 points behind second placed Mark Martin. Dale Jarrett still leads the series. Round 23 takes place at the 0.533mile oval of Bristol Motor Speedway on August 28th.
