Last update - 07 July 2001 Kelvin has been busy this week. As well as a report and pictures from the Donington Park round of the BTCC, he was one of the first journalists to drive the new MG ZS-180 saloon. The Car Enthusiast is now selling the contributors photographs in printed format. Send us an email to find out more. If any of our readers think they are up to being part of The Car Enthusiast team, please let me know, Shane - Ed. |

Item 3 of 13: Honda Civic Type-R £15,995 is all is required to get behind the wheel of potentially the hottest hot hatch of them all - the forthcoming Honda Civic Type-R. As you would expect from Honda, the engine does not feature a turbocharger. However, the 2.0-litre DOHC unit manages to push out 200bhp at 7400rpm. This is thanks to Honda's latest generation of the variable valve timing engine - i-VTEC. The figures are stunning - 0-60mph in under seven seconds and nearly 150mph at the top end. The Civic gets proper Type-R treatment inside (competition-style seats, white instrument faces, alloy gear knob, leather steering wheel with red stitching and metallic colour trim for the centre console and door inserts, Alcantara trim applied to seat and door inserts) and out (17 inch wheels, front and rear spoilers which reduce both lift and drag, mesh-type front grille and reduced ride height). Yes, there's more! Front and rear strut braces stiffen an already strong shell, and the brakes are not far off competition items. Speaking of which, Gabriele Tarquini is already developing a FIA Group N version in time for the 2002 season.... << item 2 item 4>> |
