Round 1 - Homestead, Florida

Pole position man Greg Moore took victory in the opening round of the 1999 Cart Series at Homestead. The hard fought victory was aided by a daring fuel strategy from Moore's team which meant that his Reynard 99I Mercedes stayed out in the final stages of the race without taking on more fuel. Michael Andretti in the Swift Ford challenged hard in the later stages of the race but never seemed to put the leader under much pressure. A superb drive from the much talked about title contender, Dario Franchitti, brought his Team Kool Green Honda 99I home in third place after a spirited drive. After his second pit stop Dario carved through the field to pressure Moore and Andretti. Mark Blundell finished 8th in his Reynard Mercedes 99I.With 3 different engine manufacturers in the top 5, I sense this is going to be an exciting
series.
