MORE POWER WELCOME FOR VOLKSWAGEN LUPO |
|
![]() |
Volkswagen's smallest car, the Lupo, is now available with a 1.4-litre, 16-valve, 100bhp engine and Sport trim priced at UK11,295 'on the road', a price which includes a three year unlimited mileage warranty, 12 year anti-perforation cover and a long list of standard equipment. The Lupo Sport 1.4 accelerates to 62 mph in 10 seconds and on to a top speed of 116 mph. Despite this level of performance, its small size and low weight mean that the 100bhp Lupo achieves an average fuel consumption of 42.8 mpg. The all aluminium 1.4-litre engine develops a peak torque figure of 92Ib.ft at 4400rpm. More |
than 80 per cent of this figure is available from 2000 to 5000rpm so the Lupo should feel quite nippy at all times. The brakes are uprated over the standard Lupo with discs all round, those at the front being ventilated. As a further safety measure, anti-lock brakes with electronic force distribution are also standard. Externally, the Lupo's appearance has been subtly updated with the addition of small 16V badges, tasty 14" 'Kyalami' alloy wheels, front fog lights, and a centrally mounted, stainless steel oval exhaust pipe. The Sport's fully body-coloured bumpers, door handles and side rubbing strips are shared with the S, as is the dashboard which incorporates both modern and classical features - for example, the instruments are stylishly contained in two large circular housings with metallic-finish surrounds secured by small screws. A unique Lupo Sport touch is the fabric on the doors and seats which features cartoon cat and mouse images. Hmmm. That's taking the cute thing a bit too far! Other standard features include power steering, electric windows, central locking, airbags for both driver and front seat passenger, easy entry system for access to the rear seats, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, adjustable steering column, Isofix-standard child seat mounting points and a Volkswagen 'Beta' radio-cassette. Unusually in a small car, a fully-integrated navigation system is now available on the Lupo S and Sport priced at 1200. Leather upholstery with heated front seats is also now an option at 1100. Seems that young people with money these days want a small car with the luxury appointments |
