(Mercedes-Benz UK press release - 17 November 1999)
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a special Pullman version of the S-class and likely customers will be heads of state, film stars and top businessmen. Only around 100 of the VIP limousines, which are more than 20 feet long and three feet longer than a standard S-class, will be built each year. It will be available as a V8-powered S500 Pullman or a V12 S600 Pullman and has been developed jointly between Mercedes-AMG and DaimlerChrysler. In the rear passenger compartment, passengers sit facing each other in luxurious seats. The Pullmans can be configured to seat six or seven people. |

Mercedes-Benz has more than 70-years tradition of building Pullmans. They are built on an integrated system rather than retrofitting a standard S-class which gives major advantages in bodyshell rigidity, corrosion protection and the quality of finish. Comfort inside the cabin is ensured not only by the separate air conditioning and a modern audio system in the rear, but also by the six standard sidebags in the doors and interior cladding of the central body panels. In conjunction with the electrically adjustable head restraints and three-point inertia-reel seat belts for all seats these provide the perfect occupant protection system. A glass partition between the front and rear areas of the interior is electrically operated, as are the fabric curtains which screen the entire rear compartment when required. The driver benefits from all the advanced technical and safety innovations of the Mercedes S-class such as Comand, a navigation system, a multi-function steering wheel, an electrically adjustable seat with lumbar support, parameter steering and xenon headlights (S600 only). Mercedes customers can equip the rear compartment of the new S-class Pullman limousine according to their personal requirements. This not only applies to the choice of materials and the colour scheme, but also to the technology that makes travelling in the new state limousine an even more pleasant experience. Individual options available for the rear compartment include an intercom system for communication with the driver, TV receiver, DVD player, worktables, refrigerated bar and additional lighting. Key markets for the Mercedes-Benz Pullmans include the Middle and Far East, Western Europe and Japan. Details of availability for the UK and prices have not yet been decided.
