(14 October 1999 - Seat press release)
As this autumn's supermini war hots up, SEAT has entered the arena with new Ibiza prices lower than for the outgoing model. Claimed by its makers to be the largest and best built supermini on the market, the new Ibiza, which simultaneously goes on sale in UK showrooms and debuts at the London Motor Show on 19 October, is to be priced from 8,495 on the road. SEAT is aggressively launching the new Ibiza into the highly competitive UK market at incisive new prices which are mostly below those for the outgoing models. With prices starting at 500 below the old model, the new Ibiza can be had from as little as 8,495 on the road; while in the middle of the range, the TDi 90bhp version drops in price by 745 over the outgoing model. |

Even at the top of the range, the more potent and advanced 20V T Cupra, in spite of its increased technical sophistication and power, is to be no more expensive than the outgoing Cupra model. When complete, the exciting new Ibiza UK range will comprise six models and three new engines will join the range next spring. Commenting on the move to further increase the competitiveness of its prices, SEAT Director John Abbott said: "SEAT and the Ibiza have always offered excellent value for money and that formula has made it consistently the brand's best selling car. Now in response to increasing competition in the supermini sector, we have greatly increased the visual appeal, sportiness and quality of the Ibiza while, at the same time, offering exceptional prices. "The Ibiza has always maintained an advantage over its rivals and with the new model we believe SEAT has just increased the gap, not only in terms of raw desirability, but more importantly in terms of price and the cost of ownership," concluded Mr Abbott.
