HOT NEW AUDI S6 QUATTRO REVEALED AT LAST

Audi's styling department is leading the way at the moment - we applaud them

Audi's high performance S Quattro series already includes the S3 Quattro, the S4 Quattro and the S8 Quattro. Now, say a quick hello to the latest addition - the sensational S6 Quattro. Phwoarrrr! As if the 4.2 Quattro and 2.7T Quattro were not quick enough.... The S6 features a modified 4.2-litre, five-valve V8 engine, allied as standard to the five-speed Tiptronic transmission.

With a power output of 340bhp, and maximum torque of 420Nm at just 3,400rpm, the S6 quattro is capable of completing the 0-62mph sprint in 6.7 seconds (6.8 for the Avant). Like most German cars, the top speed is limited to 155mph. More than adequate for most roads. Regulars on the de-restricted sections of the Autobahn may disagree....

Audi's Quattro four-wheel-drive system (permanent) is backed up by EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) and ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) traction control systems combined with Audi's ESP Electronic Stability Program. When ESP sensors detect what Audi call "danger", they call braking, engine management and traction control systems into play to take corrective action.

To differentiate the S6 from the rest of the A6 range, it is given a unique grille design, S8 Quattro-style polished aluminium door mirror casings, chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes and fully colour-keyed bumpers and side sills. Its flared arches are also filled with 17-inch Avus design alloy wheels with 255/40 R17 tyres, giving the car a fantastic squat stance on the road - not dissimilar to the TT's.

Inside, the distinction is made by Recaro sports seats upholstered in a combination of alcantara and leather, carbon fibre inserts for the instrument panel and door trims and an alcantara roof lining. Prices and full specification for right-hand-drive versions of the new S6 quattro have yet to be finalised, and will be announced nearer to the UK launch towards the end of this year.
