Jordan to retain Benson & Hedges sponsorship

Jordan are expected to announce shortly that Benson & Hedges are to continue as the team's main sponsor until the end of 2003. This will be a sigh of relief for Eddie Jordan, but comes as no major surprise. The Jordan team are professional publicity seekers - B&H certainly get their moneys worth! In 2006 tobacco advertising will be outlawed completey, so most teams will struggle to find as big pockets from other industries.

Supertec engines for Minardi?

Minardi may just be able to afford a contract with Supertec for the 2000 season. It depends completely on the amount of money / interest shown by Marc Gene's sponsor, Telefonica. The team may even be renamed Minardi-Telefonica.

Bernie Ecclestone selling out

If there can be such a thing as a boss to Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone is it. However, Bernie wants to pass the reins to someone else, or at least let someone else hold on next to him. Rumours abound that Guy Hands, boss of Nomura (a Japanese bank) wants in, but Bernie only wants to release 40% of his power.

Ford given go-ahead for Jaguar F1 team name

Ford have been given permission to change the Stewart team name to Jaguar at the meeting of the F1 Commission. There were no objections. The first Jaguar Formula One car will be unveiled at Frankfurt, alongside Eddie Irvine and Johnny Herbert - the drivers for 2000.
