PHOTOCARD DRIVING LICENCES NOW IN THE FRAME |
|
|
From July, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will be issuing photocard driving licences only. Old style paper licences will no longer be issued. To obtain a photocard, applicants will have to complete the form D750 available from post offices or a driver examiner, when they pass a driving test, or DVLA if they are due to renew their licence - provided DVLA have the correct current address. Applicants need to provide a recent passport style colour photograph together with original identity documents such as a birth certificate or a current passport. But, a passport should not be sent to DVLA if there are plans to travel soon after applying for a photocard. Existing paper licence holders will also need to provide details of their identity but most people will only have to do this for a photocard licence, once in their lifetime. From July, those who send their paper licences to DVLA to notify a change of name and/or address will be sent a photocard application (D750R) form. A licence will not be issued until the form has been correctly completed and returned to DVLA Alternatively, those who need to notify a change of name and/or address can speed up their licence issue by getting the D750 form from a post office. The completed application and their paper licence should be sent to DVLA with a covering letter explaining that their personal details have changed. A fact sheet about photocard licences is available by ringing 01792 792 792 at any time and it is on the DVLA Internet website: http://www.open.gov.uk/dvla/dvla.htm |
