NISSAN TO SHOW SPORTY YET FRUGAL CONCEPT AT FRANKFURT

The cheeky styling hides the latest technology from Nissan

Nissans latest concept, the 3-litre/100km coupe Cypact, will debut at the 1999 Frankfurt Motorshow on Tuesday 14 September. The compact Cypact aims to combine a dynamic and enjoyable driving experience with a so-called 'three-litre' super-economy engine for substantially reduced environmental impact compared with conventional sports cars.

The backbone of this concept is Nissan's next-generation turbo-charged diesel engine which delivers high power and torque together with low levels of fuel consumption and emissions. The new, four-cylinder NEO Di (Nissan Ecology Oriented Direct injection) engine is capable of using just 3.4 litres of fuel to travel

100km, with CO2 emissions no more than 90g/km - confirming the Cypact as a so-called 'three litre car', or nearly anyway! For those of you worried about a sporty diesel, the engine produces 74bhp at 4,200rpm and maximum torque of 160Nm at only 2,000rpm - ample output with such a light body.

The Cypact features a new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) package. This information system helps the driver avoid the frustration of traffic delays, adverse weather conditions and so on, and is capable of providing additional detailed route and destination information. We will have more information in our Frankfurt Motor Show report.
