THE FUTURE PATH TO AFFORDABLE LOTUS ELISE RACING? |
Moto-Build Racing with all their experience of competition with MGs and Rover saloons over the years decided it was time to take to the circuits in a racing Lotus Elise. Yes, that silver and pink beauty you see on the right. PINK?! Yep, that's right, a traditional Moto-Build Racing colour. War paint if you like..... Darryl Davis (MD and part-time track racer - or was that the other way around?!) decided to start off in what he calls the roadgoing modified class of the 'Roadsports' category. This allows limited modifications which will increase the power output on the Elise to around 160bhp. To get to this figure within the regulations several modifications are required above and beyond Moto-Build's 'normal' 150bhp road-car conversion. Darryl claims over 160bhp. Not bad at all considering how little weight the Elise has to carry around! |

The man himself describes the car's modifications: The 16O +bhp conversion from start to finish uses our lightweight exhaust, a catalyst replacer, the Pipercross vector filter with measured intake length pipe, the cylinder head is gas flowed but still uses standard valve sizes, and a pair of new design camshafts, with considerably higher lift than our normal stage II are used along with vernier timing gears, and uprated valve springs. This whole set up is then mapped on the rolling road. This takes quite a while but future conversions will only need minor modifications to the map, just to cater for slight anomalies between engines." Phew! For more details visit the Moto-Build Web site. The Car Enthusiast hope to try this special Elise on for size in the near future - then we'll be the pink ones.... S.O' - [email protected] |
