New images of the Alfa Romeo 4C sports car have been released as the books open for 1,000 special Launch Editions of the car. Priced at £52,000 the 4C Launch Edition will be differentiated from the standard car by unique badging, red or white paint, additional carbon fibre trim, aluminium rear diffuser and larger alloy wheels.

Under the skin the Launch Edition also benefits from a racing exhaust system, aftermarket air cleaner, upgraded suspension and coloured brake calipers. No word on what effect these changes will make to the turbocharged engine's 240hp output, but the official figures state that the standard 4C will crack the 62mph barrier in 4.5 seconds and have a top speed in excess of 155mph.

Of the 1,000 cars 400 have been earmarked for Europe, Africa and the Middle East; 500 will go to North American markets to spearhead Alfa Romeo's return to the with the remaining 100 available to the rest of the world. Buyers of the 4C Launch Edition will be offered the opportunity to take part in an event in Italy that includes a driver training session.

Pricing for the standard car has yet to be announced but it's thought to be less than £50,000.
