Subaru Impreza Limited Edition This week's Geneva Motor Show more....
Subaru Impreza Turbo RB5
World Rally Championship driver Richard Burns has given his name to the latest special edition Subaru Impreza. Only 444 of the RB5 (RB races under the number 5) will be produced. There are two versions available - one based on the "regular" Impreza Turbo saloon and the other fettled by Prodrive - the UK based team responsible for the WRC challenge. The Prodrive version produces 250bhp (at 6000rpm) as part of its "performance package". Even more impressive is the 20% improvement in torque, from 214 to 258lbft. 221lbft of this is available between 3000 and 5000rpm, so real-world performance will be fantastic, if not quite as surreal as the 22B....

This is the 4th special edition of the Turbo launched here in the UK - following on from the Terzo, Catalunya and Series McRae. Like those, it is expected that the RB5 will soon be a collectors' item. Adding to the individuality is the special "Blue Steel metallic" paint and high-intensity PIAA driving lights (with body-coloured covers) replacing the Turbo's massive fog lamps. While not as eye-catching as gold wheels, the new 17in Prodrive Speedline 6-spoke wheels are certainly stylish, featuring a titanium-coloured finish and fitted with ZR-rated Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
Inside, Prodrive fit their "quick-shift" gearchange, while Subaru have added blue Alcantara trim, a graphite-finish centre console, special floor mats and the all important numbered RB5 plaque, identifying the car as authentic. You can buy this car next month (April). The Prodrive version will set you back 27,545 (on the road) while the more standard model is a paltry 24,995 - only 4045 more than the regular Impreza Turbo - a bargain I think you'll agree.

BMW will pip Mercedes-Benz at the post in the race to produce the first fuel-cell battery in a production car. A number of hydrogen fuelled 7-series will be ready in time for next year's EXPO 2000 "Clean Energy" project. BMW are considering selling this version of the 7-series soon after.
