This season Ferrari hope to come off the grid at Melbourne fighting for victory. You may think this a tall order with Mclaren's dominance in the early part of last year but with Michael Schumacher at the helm the order doesn't seem so tall. Maranello might have just hit the right buttons this year with the F399. With Eddie Irvine cast once again in the supportive role, Schumacher has the chance to earn every penny of his 22 million dollar annual retainer. Australia was not to be Schumacher's race though! Dodgy steering wheel controls, a puncture, damaged front wing and restarting at the back of the grid were some of his problems! |
Irvine, however, proved himself as a top-class driver, resisting all pressure and driving hard all the way to his well-deserved victory - his first in F1. Congratulations Eddie. | |
