Anthony Reid (MG race driver) interview, September 2001
Story by Ian Stewart, pictures by Kelvin Fagan - September 2001.
The Car Enthusiast: "You drove for MG in the BTCC and at Le Mans, which
one do you prefer?"
Anthony Reid: "They're both good because it's an MG racing car,
I've never driven for a British car company before. I
particulary enjoyed Le Mans because that's my first
love and I finished 3rd there 10 years ago and with MG
I think we have a possibility of winning the race
outright, not next year but the year after."
The Car Enthusiast: "How did you get the drives with MG?"
Anthony Reid: "I did a bit more begging than the other two
drivers, but I believe I got the reputation last year
of being the best British driver and just narrowly
missed out on winning the series, and with MG being a
British company they were looking for British drivers,
so I was an obvious choice in the respect that I've
got a proven track record and a lot of experience in
this particular series."
The Car Enthusiast: "So is the main aim to win the championship next
year?"
Anthony Reid: "Yes, I believe we can win the championship next
year, the basic car is very good and we've got a great
bunch of people working on the project, West Surrey
and Lola, so all the ingredients are there for us to
win next year."
The Car Enthusiast: "And so which one do you most enjoy racing for in
the BTCC, Nissan, Ford or MG?"
Anthony Reid: "I like MG very much because it's a kind of family
atmosphere, I've gelled very quickly with the people
of West Surrey. Lola are a nice bunch of people and
it's a British car company so you can't get better than
that!"
