Oulton Park Sprint Race
Yvan Müller (Vauxhall) managed to get ahead of the impressive newcomer Andy Priaulx (Vauxhall) who was standing in for Phil Bennett who had picked up a one race ban after the last meeting at Croft. Yvan Müller maintained his position to take the win in the Sprint Race. It was Jason Plato who took third place in the other red and white Vauxhall Astra.

Müller managed to get the lead before coming into the first corner. His start was better than that of Priaulx, who had spun the tyres off the line. Priaulx to his credit never let Müller out of his sight and kept the same pace as Müller throughout the entire race.

Müller finally crossed the line just 0.5 seconds ahead of Andy Priaulx.

Jason Plato, who finished third, lost his place in the start to the fast starting Steve Soper. "That Peugeot is like a rocket ship on the straights," said Plato.

But as usual Soper only managed to stay ahead of Plato during a few laps before Jason roared past.

"I just had to hold my throttle to the floor and stretch it out," was the BTC Production class winner Roger Moen's comment after the race. Moen led the race from start to finish and was never threatened from his teammate Simon Harrison who took second place.

Gavin Pyper, in the Alfa 156, took third place. Pyper complained about the new engine that lacks power compared to the engine used during the prior part of the season. Though the previous engine was far from reliable and the team decided reliability ahead of power.

Jim Edwards Jnr would had been in fourth place behind Pyper, but brake fade forced him into early retirement, hopeful of better luck in the feature race.

Oulton Park Feature Race
Jason Plato bettered his third place in the sprint by crossing the finish line first in the Feature Race. He won the race by a healthy two seconds ahead of James Thompson.

Dan Eaves who had made up a lot of places as drivers in front of him retired, took a well earned third place in his Peugeot.

Andy Priaulx held pole position and took the start followed by the two hungry Vauxhall men, Plato and Müller. As the race progressed it seemed as if Plato and Müller were slightly quicker than Andy.

Priaulx was driving really defensively, indeed not wanting anyone understandably to get past. But Andy did drive a little bit too defensively coming in to one corner. He cut the corner a little bit too early and let Plato to get up alongside. As if that was not enough Müller managed to get even more speed and got up alongside Andy on the opposite side where Plato was. Suddenly they were three abreast with no one wanting to give way. Plato managed to hold the line and went past both Müller and Priaulx up in to the lead. As for Müller things went much worse...

Müller was really determined and tried to drive around the outside of the two others. Müller was all over the track bumping and sliding, but coming in to Cascades he lost it all together and went of the track spinning backwards and was just missed by Thompson. There followed a 'safety car period' as Müller's stricken Vauxhall was moved out of the gravel.

On the restart Plato cruised on to take the victory while Andy was forced to retire due to a technical problem promoting Thompson up in to second.

In the BTC Production class Roger Moen impressed by taking yet another win. The result list was the same as the previous race, Harrison in second and Gavin Pyper taking third place. Moen was, just as the last race, never really threatened and could hang on to the lead with out any trouble.

Like the sprint race, Jim Edwards Jnr took early retirement again. A fractured fuel line inside the car forced Edwards to pull into the pits, his eyes streaming from the fuel vapour. Apart from the obvious discomfort, it’s just not safe to drive a car with a leak of that magnitude, some 9 litres of fuel were slopping around inside the car!!
