Chrysler Team ORECA has maintained its fourth position overall as Sunday afternoon, and the final four hours of the race, approaches. Olivier Beretta, Karl Wendlinger and Pedro Lamy hold onto the position despite needing a starter motor changed shortly after 8:00am, and are a lap clear of the next competitor.

The second Chrysler LMP of Seiji Ara, Masahiko Kondo and Ni Amorim was running in seventh position overall after Kondo suffered a sticking throttle on the approach to the first chicane on the Mulsanne straight, and slid into the barriers on Sunday morning. The damage was only superficial and the driving crew was able to continue at unabated speed. Ara stopped on the circuit at 12:15 with the rear of the car on fire. The Japanese escaped unharmed but the car was retired.

"We were hitting our target with the two cars before the problem with Ara's car," said ORECA's Sporting Director Pierre Dieudonne. "I would say that our cars are. Two of our cars have held third position and they have held third and fourth position. For a long time we had three cars in the top ten, so I think we have played a part in this race.

"We have changed the water pumps and the starter motor on all three cars, but this is a young car, only five months old, and once you identify a problem you can fix it. If we started this race next week, we would not have these problems again. The reliability and level of the engine is very good. It certainly is a credit to Chrysler engineering that we ran this far with two cars."
