Škoda’s fabulous new supermini, the Fabia will be on sale in the UK from 3 March 2000. Prices start at £7599 on the road for the 1.0 litre Fabia Classic.

The new Fabia is a real stunner. Designed for the 21st century, this 5-door hatchback is built with safety, the environment and comfort in mind, but not at the expense of its good looks. By utilising the most modern components and manufacturing techniques, Škoda has produced a car that exceeds all current crash test requirements and already meets the tough EU4 emissions standards for petrol engines which come into force in 2005. Although the Fabia’s exterior dimensions place it in the small car category, it offers cabin space which puts many cars in a higher class and price range to shame. It easily accommodates five adults comfortably with room for their personal effects in the generous storage bins and plenty of space in the boot.

Fabia is available in three trim levels, Classic, Comfort and Elegance and initially with a choice of three engines, 1.4 68 bhp and 1.4 16V 100 bhp petrol engines and 1.9 SDi diesel engine. As standard, all models have driver’s airbag, electro-hydraulic power steering, adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel for maximum driving comfort and a quality radio cassette player. Comfort and Elegance models both boast air-conditioning, passenger airbag, central locking, electric windows and on-board computer amongst their features. The Fabia Elegance also has alloy wheels, alarm, ABS and heated front seats.
