NEW SHOGUN TO RECEIVE EUROPEAN UNVEILING

Mitsubishi Motors will be unveiling the ALL NEW SHOGUN at the 2000 Geneva Motor Show on 29 February.

This totally new version replaces the current model which began life in the early 1990’s. This third generation Shogun is available with a 3.5 GDI engine or a 3.2 DID (Direct Injection Diesel) engine - the first time this new DID technology has been available in Mitsubishi’s European vehicles.

The New Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin

The all new Shogun discards the previous ladder frame chassis design in favour of a monocoque construction with new engines, transmission and suspension. The Shogun has a very sophisticated level of on-road driving without any compromise on its unrivalled off-road ability which remains superb.

Available in the UK in the Spring, the new Shogun completes the ‘Mitsubishi’ Shogun family made up of; the Shogun Pinin, Shogun Sport (formerly Challenger) and Shogun. UK prices for the new Shogun will be announced at the end of March/April.

Other vehicles on display include a rally version of the Shogun just back from Paris-Dakar, and one of four times World Rally Champion Tommi Makinen’s Lancer Evolution VI’s.

Mitsubishi will also have on display the environmentally friendly SUW Compact which further demonstrates its technological know how and design expertise.

The SUW Compact is Mitsubishi Motors' proposal for a town car for the 21st Century, based on the SUW (Smart Utility Wagon) concept.

The SUW Compact is a ‘Smart Urban Runner’ that provides a responsive and comfortable ride while at the same time delivering excellent fuel efficiency. It meets this criteria with a compact body whilst retaining a roomy interior that delivers high levels of style and safety.

The SUW Compact is fitted with a GDI-ASG (Gasoline Direct Injection, Automatic Stop-and-Go) a newly developed 1.1 litre GDI engine combined with a system which automatically shuts off the engine whilst idling (eg at traffic lights) and starts it up again for quick acceleration.

Also on the stand will be the Shogun Sport which goes on sale in the UK on 1 March, Swiss special editions of the Shogun Pinin, L200 Double Cab, Space Wagon, Space Runner, Galant, Carisma, Evolution, Lancer Wagon, Space Star and Colt.
