Been anywhere interesting?
After a month in the snow in France the conditions back in the UK caused the Shogun absolutely no trouble at all. It did a good few miles in our hands and never missed a beat, being spacious and comfortable - even with four adults on board. That said it's gone now, being replaced by another Mitsubishi that's a good bit smaller, but a lot more enjoyable to drive on the roads between the fields where the Shogun impresses.
Anything stand out...?
Over the duration of our short-long loan the Shogun never failed to impress us with its dependability. That's mightily important when you're using a vehicle in environments where it's not unusual to have to de-ice the inside of the windscreen in the mornings. It proved remarkably comfortable on longer trips despite its rather noisy engine and returned respectable economy despite its size, weight and our less than economical way of driving it.
...and for the wrong reasons?
As great as it is having something so big and tough at your disposal it's not every day you need the Shogun's impressive technical ability. I only once ever used the four-wheel drive and most of the time I was driving solo; not once was the additional third-row of rear seats put into action. It's a big car too, making finding parking it on the tight streets outside my flat in North London very tricky.
Where next?
Back to Mitsubishi, the Shogun having been a shorter loan with us before being replaced by something else. Sitting outside is a new Colt Ralliart, Mitsubishi's inexpensive supermini hot-hatch. It promises to deliver a completely different driving experience to the Shogun; keep an eye out for our regular updates.
