White hot Norfolk mustard
Last year we had a superb day trip to Norfolk to try the limited edition Lotus Exige 240R and came away in a state of euphoria; ears ringing to the whine of a supercharger and the whispers of a series production version of the powerplant.

Engine & transmission

Engine: Mid-mounted transverse Toyota 2ZZ-GE four-cylinder engine. Aluminium construction, water cooled. Roots-type supercharger and intercooler.

Management: Lotus T4e engine control unit. Three-way catalytic convertor. Euro IV emissions compliant.

Cubic capacity (cc): 1796
Valve gear: Double overhead camshafts with variable valve timing and lift. Hydraulic tappets, rockers arms with low friction followers.
Max. power (bhp): 218 at 7800 rpm
Max. torque (lb.ft): 159 at 5500 rpm

Transmission: C64 six-speed close ratio manual gearbox driving through the rear wheels. Constant mesh helical gears and open differential. Limited slip differential is an option.

Chassis & running gear

Front: Fully independent sport suspension utilising unequal length wishbones. Bilstein mono-tube gas damper, Eibach coaxial coil spring and anti-roll bar.

Rear: As above, with double-shear traction control arm brace.

Steering: Solidly mounted mechanical rack and pinion steering box with 2.8 turns lock-to-lock.

Brakes: Servo-assisted, track-tuned four-channel ABS with Lotus/AP Racing twin-piston fixed aluminium alloy front brake calipers, Brembo single-piston sliding rear calipers and 282mm x 26mm cast iron ventilated and cross drilled discs all round.

Wheels: Lightweight black alloys: 16-inch front, 17-inch rear.

Tyres: Yokohama A048 W-rated. Front: 195/50 R16. Rear: 225/45 R17.
