Audi Sport TT Cup to support DTM throughout 2015.
The new TT is going to get its own one-make race series, to support the DTM in 2015.
What's the car like?
Centrally prepared and fielded by quattro GmbH, the TT racer uses the same 2.0-litre TFSI engine and six-speed S tronic gearbox as the road-going TT; indeed, with 310hp, it's at TT S-spec, which is impressive. However, it is lighter at 1,125kg and a 'push-to-pass' button can throw another 30hp the driver's way for a limited period of time.
How many races will it be involved in?
The DTM is a ten-event series and the Audi Sport TT Cup, as the series will be known, will have two races at each track. Most of these are in Germany, although a few stray into neighbouring countries.
And who's taking part?
This is the interesting bit - 24 TT racers will be prepared, with six cars reserved for an ever-changing roster of guest drivers. But the other 18 seats are open, with applications taken through www.audi-motorsport.com. Through a gruelling selection process, the lucky few will be chosen.
Right, I'm off to apply.
Er... we don't think just anyone can take part; you'd better at least have a racing licence, surely. But it is an appealing prospect - and it's only the second one-make race series Audi has run, after the R8 LMS Cup in Asia. The winner of the Audi Sport TT Cup could go on to GT3, DTM or even the World Endurance Championship.
