What's all this about?
BMW debuted a few M4s in the DTM championship this season, and one of the BMW Team RMG cars - in the hands of German driver Marco Wittman - secured both the Drivers' and Team Championships. So here's a special edition M4 Coupé to celebrate this achievement: the DTM Champion Edition.
It's a bit early for a special edition of the M4, isn't it?
Maybe, but as the title was secured at the Lausitzring in September with two rounds of the season still to go, needs must when the devil drives and all that.
So what's included?
It's largely a styling exercise, as the 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six remains unchanged - so you get 425hp, 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds, 32.1mpg and 204g/km CO2. All DTM Championship Editions will be Alpine White with contrasting matt-black bonnets and boot lids; these feature pinstripes in rainbow colours to echo the racing livery.
Is that it?
No, buyers will get an M logo just behind the front wheelarches, a black side stripe running along the shoulders of the car, the number 23 (Wittman's racing number) on the doors and graphics in the rear side windows to denote the driver, nationality and year of the title-winning campaign. Inside, Wittman's signature features on the dash trim and in the door sills.
Any word on price, and how many will be built?
No details on the former but this is a very limited edition M4 - just 23 will be made in all, to once again hark back to Wittman's on-track number.
