What's the news?
The new Vauxhall Corsa will feature a new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder Ecotec engine. Although the Corsa is still weeks away from making its debut at the Paris Motor Show (4th-19th October) details of the engine line-up have been released.
Mechanicals
Featuring direct fuel injection, the 1.0-litre Ecotec motor is turbocharged and will come in 90- and 115hp states of tune. Peak torque is 170Nm, which is produced at 1,800rpm for both power outputs. Instead of quoting a 0-62mph time Vauxhall gives the time to get from 50- to 75mph as a benchmark of overtaking ability; and the increment takes 10.4 seconds with the 115hp engine.
Start-stop is standard, which helps the 90hp Ecotec unit achieve 54.7mpg on the combined cycle. The rest of the petrol engine line-up consists of 1.2- and 1.4-litre naturally aspirated options with 70- and 90hp respectively.
Customers wanting diesel power can choose the 1.3-litre CDTi, which comes with either 75- or 95hp power outputs. Both are fitted with stop-start as standard and Vauxhall claims that new generation turbochargers ensure smooth driving and minimal noise. The most economical Corsa at launch will be the three-door model fitted with the 75hp diesel engine and five-speed manual gearbox; this returns 87.8mpg and has CO2 emissions of 85g/km.
Anything else?
Prices for the new Vauxhall Corsa will be announced on 2nd October.
