What's the news?
Volkswagen has opened the order book for the updated Scirocco with prices starting at £20,455. Changes include new lights at both ends and a redesigned front bumper. Under the bonnet there is a range of more economical engines. The first cars are due for delivery in October.
Four trim levels make up the range: Scirocco, GT, R-Line and R. Priced from £20,455 for the 1.4-litre TSI to £24,675 for the 2.0 TDI DSG the Scirocco comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning and height adjustable sports seats. In-car entertainment includes the RCD 510 touchscreen, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.
GT models start at £22,305 and can be identified by 18-inch wheels, front fog lights and parking sensors. Inside there is part cloth, part Alcantara upholstery, 'chequered flag' dash inserts, climate control and a touchscreen navigation system.
The R-Line comes with a choice of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel power, starting with the £27,020, 150hp TDI version. This model gets its own look inside and out thanks to a unique bumper design, 19-inch 'Talladega' alloys, a special steering wheel and leather trimmed sports seats.
At the top of the range the R comes exclusively with the 2.0-litre, 280hp petrol engine for £32,295 - or with DSG automatic transmission for an extra £1,500. Lowered suspension, a styling kit, chrome mirror caps and 19-inch 'Cadiz' wheels are part of the package. It also comes with DCC dynamic chassis control and a colour multifunction trip computer.
Anything else?
As a nod to the original 1974 Scirocco Volkswagen has given the latest model an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console. This includes a chronometer, charge pressure and oil temperature gauges.
