What's the news?
Vauxhall is making a lot of noise about its new diesel-powered GTC, which doesn't, apparently, thanks to its 'Whisper Diesel' engine. Prices start at £22,620 and the GTC can be ordered now.
Mechanicals
Replacing the 1.7 CDTi engine, the 1.6 CDTi 'Whisper Diesel' produces 136hp and 320Nm of torque. Driving through an improved six-speed gearbox the official combined cycle fuel economy is 68.9mpg with CO2 emissions of 104g/km. Standard fitment of stop-start and braking energy recuperation helps to achieve those figures.
Anything else?
The secret of the new diesel's refinement is in an efficient combustion process with multiple injections, redesigned components and the use of acoustic covers. Customers can also choose the 1.6 CDTi engine in the Astra, Meriva and Zafira Tourer.
Stuart Harris, Vauxhall's Head of Carline Brand, said: "We are delighted to see the 1.6-litre 'Whisper Diesel' introduced into our flagship GTC model. The new 1.6-litre engine is a result of significant investment and provides an exceptional blend of performance, refinement and economy."
