Nissan has announced the arrival of GT Academy for 2014. The sixth edition of the popular competition that gives PlayStation gamers a chance to become professional Nismo racing drivers is back. The online qualifying round will begin on April 21 on PlayStation gaming consoles running Gran Turismo 6.
Participants from Europe, Germany, and USA, with the inclusion of new International GT Academy contestants from Australia, India, Middle East, Mexico and Thailand will be chosen. After a three-month driver development training programme, the final five GT Academy champions for 2014 will take part in the Dubai 24-hour race in January 2015.
Anything else?
Since the first edition of GT Academy in the year 2008, more than three million entries were made to the competition. The winners from the past events have continued their journey in motorsports, after the jumpstart given by GT Academy. The inaugural winner, Lucas Ordoņez, is to race in Super GT Championship this year; the 2012 champ Wolfgang Reip is going to participate in the 2014 Le Mans 24 hours; and GT Academy champ from 2011, Jann Mardenborough, is going to compete in the Formula 1 feeder GP3 series this year.
