What's the news?

Peugeot has announced prices and specifications for the new 308 SW. Available from £16,895 the four-model estate car range can be ordered now ahead of the first examples arriving in the UK in July.

Trim levels are Access, Active, Allure and Feline. Standard equipment includes LED daytime running lights and LED tail lamps, air conditioning and a DAB digital radio with USB ports and Bluetooth. Active models feature 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control and a 9.7-inch touchscreen for the satellite navigation system. The Allure can be identified by full LED headlamps and front fog lights; it also comes with 16-inch alloys on the BlueHDi 120 or 17-inch wheels with other powertrain options. To aid parking a reversing camera and front parking sensors are fitted. At the top of the range the Feline is fitted with 18-inch wheels, a glass roof and tinted rear side windows. Inside there are Alcantara trimmed seats and this model also comes with Dynamic Cruise Control, Emergency Collision Alert and Emergency Collision Braking system.

The engine line-up comprises of two petrol and five diesel units, all available from launch. Peugeot's three-cylinder, 1.2-litre turbocharged e-THP engine makes its debut in the 308 SW. This engine comes in 110- or 130hp variants with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions on the more powerful version. Carbon dioxide emissions are 109g/km with manual gearbox - whether 110- or 130hp - or 114g/km for the automatic. Diesel engines include a 1.6-litre BlueHDi 120hp motor with CO2 emissions as low as 85g/km.

Anything else?

According to Peugeot, estate cars account for 10% of sales in the 308's market sector. Typical customers are apparently 'younger, more dynamic and more male' than the average for the C-segment.
