What's the news?
Lotus is joining with East Anglia Police to launch a Christmas "NONE for the road" drink awareness campaign. With more people killed during Christmas by drunk driving, Lotus is offering a fully liveried Lotus Evora S to support the initiative.
Key to the campaign is to highlight the 'Fatal Four' patterns of road accidents. These are drink driving, speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving. During December, six Police forces including Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire will take part in National and European-wide campaigns.
"We build cars for people to enjoy driving safely so we are happy to be part of this initiative and hope that strong action like this saves lives and keeps our roads safe for everyone", said Aslam Farikullah, Chief Operating Officer of Lotus plc.
This message was echoed by Chief Inspector Chris Spinks, head of the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing Unit, "I would like to express my gratitude to Lotus for the provision of the Lotus Evora police vehicle. This vehicle will be a huge asset in our efforts to deliver road safety messages to our target groups, particularly to young drivers who are disproportionately represented among casualties. We already know from our experience of using the Lotus 'driver simulator' and that in turn affords us the chance to start that conversation around behaviour behind the wheel."
Anything else?
The joint campaign kicks off in earnest this month. Police will increase the stopping and breathalysing of drivers to all times of the day. The message is clear - make it NONE for the road.
