Next month, at the
Frankfurt Show we will get to see and sit in the final production version of the Peugeot 407 Coupe you see here. March's
Geneva Show saw the 'Prologue' version and unsurprisingly there are few changes between that so called concept car and the production version.
Thankfully, there does appear to have been some minor resculpting of the rear end, resulting in a much tauter design, hiding the long rear overhand. As in the Prologue, the characteristic long 407 chin (as featured on the saloon and SW) is disguised with distinctive, but purely cosmetic vents.
Under the svelte glasshouse lies a proper four-seater cabin, with high quality fittings and the use of classy leather and brushed aluminium in some versions. Specification levels and prices will be announced closer to the UK on sale date of January 2006, but we do know that Peugeot will only fit top-level engines to the 407 Coupe. The entry-level version is fitted with a 2.2-litre four-pot developing 160bhp. At the top of the range lie two 24-valve V6s; a 3-litre petrol unit producing 211bhp, and a 2.7-litre diesel engine (
as reviewed in the Jaguar S-type) producing 205bhp and a hell of a lot more torque than either of the petrol engines.
Double wishbone front suspension, coupled to multi-link rear suspension should ensure that the Coupe is good to drive too. We'll get behind the wheel for ourselves early in 2006.
