Jaguar has released details of revisions to the XJ range. These include a raft of detail changes and a new engine. The most significant change is that the Jaguar XJ is now available with the excellent Euro IV compliant 2.7-litre twin-turbo diesel that has already deeply impressed us in
the S-Type. Allied to the XJ's superior ride and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) this new model promises to be an invaluable and popular addition to the range.
The 207bhp diesel propels the XJ to 60mph in 7.8 seconds and the 321lb.ft of torque endows the car with good in-gear flexibility. The real dividend will be economy as the XJ diesel averages 35mpg, another benefit of the XJ's aluminium construction. Other improvements include further NVH advancement thanks to the addition of acoustic laminated glass and electronically controlled active engine mounts, an industry first in this market sector.
The detail changes include alterations to the car's interior and exterior to bring the XJ more up to date. These include cosmetic tweaks on the outside and additional technologies such as Bluetooth connectivity, an automatic speed limiter and a tyre pressure monitoring system. We hope to drive the new XJ diesel before the end of the year, so keep an eye on the
Jaguar Road Tests page for the review.
