Citroen's resurgent DS sub-brand is set to expand in the UK with the executive DS5. Due to go on sale in April the DS5 will cost from £22,400 to £32,200 for the range-topping DSport Hybrid4 version.
Citroen sees the DS5 as a competitor to D-segment models such as the Volkswagen Passat and Vauxhall Insignia, and premium executive models including the Volkswagen CC and Audi A4. As such it boasts a luxurious interior (said to be inspired by the world of aviation) that features a heads-up display, individual electrically operated sun blinds, smart headlights that activate and de-activate according to surrounding traffic conditions and 'Club' leather.
The DS5 engine range comprises of a 110hp 1.6-litre eHDI engine, a 160hp 2.0-litre HDI unit, a 200hp turbocharged petrol and the range topping diesel-electric hybrid powertrain that is identical to the one used in the recently launched Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4.
Spec-wise the entry level DSign trim includes a full complement of airbags, fog lights with cornering function, keyless go, cruise control and dual-zone air conditioning. DStyle adds part leather upholstery, satnav, reversing camera and the 'Cockpit Roof' with three electric sun blinds. Range topping DSport models get full leather, heated and massage seats, front parking sensors, Xenon headlights and the full colour head-up display.
Citroen expects the average DS5 buyer to be a 35-year old male who will plumb for the £25,900 2.0-litre HDi 160 DStyle model.
