AC Cars has announced its return to the
Geneva Motor Show with a new model, the AC MkVI. The AC name celebrates its 110th anniversary at the show with a range of intriguing announcements.
The AC MkVI is the latest model 'in the worthy traditions of the Cobra family'. However it breaks with tradition in two areas, in that it uses a Chevrolet (rather than a Ford) V8 and it is built in Germany - not Britain or the USA. Along with a 430bhp Corvette motor, it is claimed the MkVI incorporates lots of 'up to the minute features' under the skin. The car costs £92,310 plus local taxes and is on sale now.
The company stresses that it hasn't abandoned the UK and will establish an 'AC Heritage Centre' at Brooklands in Surrey. The centre will be formally opened later this year and an announcement will be made about classic AC Cars that will be produced at Brooklands.
AC has also allowed Iconic Motors in the USA to adopt the brand name for its sports car. The Iconic AC Roadster features familiar styling but with updated details and an 825bhp V8 engine. Performance claims include a 210mph top speed and 0-60mph in less than three seconds.
AC's chairman said, "For the first time in a decade we're able to provide customers with genuine, high quality cars from a range of proven production sources". The
Geneva Motor Show stand will feature an original AC Ace alongside the latest MkVI.
