Toyota has announced the start of a new voluntary recall affecting certain Avensis and Lexus IS models.
The Toyota Avensis, with 2.0- and 2.4-litre petrol engines, made between July 2000 and September 2008 will receive a new fuel pipe and an inspection of the fuel pump check valve. In some markets it has been found that small cracks can appear in the pipe and that the check valve has been insufficiently tightened. In the worst case, this can lead to fuel leaks. A total of 15,500 examples of the Avensis registered in the UK are potentially affected.
On top of that, 3,100 owners of the Lexus IS 250 will be contacted. This relates to versions built between August 2007 and February 2009. Due to possible insufficient tightening, the fuel pressure sensor could loosen and in very rare cases fuel could leak.
No other Toyota or Lexus models are affected by this recall.
Jon Williams, Managing Director of Toyota GB PLC, said, "We are committed to putting the customer first and have a total focus on the quality of all our products. We will liaise with our customers to carry out the repair procedures as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption."
