Kia has revealed the engine range for the new Picanto supermini, due to debut at March's
Geneva Motor Show.
A choice of four engines will be available when the car goes on sale in spring, though we're likely to get just two of them.
Three versions of a three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine will appear globally, comprising petrol, flex fuel and bi-fuel. We're likely just to get the first of those, because the demand for alternatively fuelled A-segment cars is quite limited in the UK. Our other option is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol unit.
Kia says that some UK versions will come with ISG start-stop technology, 'cutting emissions to between 90 and 100g/km'. The 1.0-litre petrol is thought to emit 95g/km of CO
2 without that feature, so either way it will cost nothing in VED.
The five-door version of the new Kia Picanto will go on sale first, in spring, followed by a three-door model in autumn. Prices will be announced closer to the Geneva show.
