Saab has revealed that the estate version of the 9-5, the SportWagon, will make its public debut at the
Geneva Motor Show.
The 9-5 SportWagon's body carries over the distinctive C-pillar shape of the saloon while the rear windows wrap around the back of the car, echoing the styling of the windscreen and front windows.
Within the new tail there is room for 527-litres of luggage, which can be extended to 1,600-litres with the rear seats lowered. Effort has been taken to create a load area without difficult corners or intrusions; the sides of the boot are flat and incorporate storage for small items. The cargo deck is almost two-metres long. Under-floor storage is also provided and there is an optional 'U-rail' system to sub-divide the boot and keep items separate.
The Saab 9-5 SportWagon comes with an electric power operated tailgate that can be operated from a rotary knob on the driver's door, a button on the key fob or a touch pad on the outside of the tailgate. The rotary knob allows the opening height to be set to take account of limited overhead clearance.
The Saab 9-5 SportWagon will be available to order from the spring with the first cars due for delivery in September of this year.
